Medieval and Tudor Drama
This course covers the dramatic production of England from liturgical ceremonies and to the beginnings of the commercial theatre. The course will pay attention to the various production contexts of plays鈥攃hurches, city streets, noble households, universities, and playhouses. We will ask, what kinds of organizations support and use theatre? How is representing the divine through illusory means challenged and modified through the period of the late Middle Ages and early Reformation? Plays include the civic cycles, Mankind, Gammer Gurton's Needle, Wit and Science, Magnyficence, Gorboduc.
This course is repeatable for credit under different topic titles.
