Climate Fiction in Canada
We will discuss contemporary texts written in Canada that discuss the physical, political, social, and cultural impacts of climate change on specific Canadian regions and populations. While the focus will be on the Canadian context, as climate emergency affects Canada in unique ways, we will consider diverse and wide-ranging responses to anthropogenic global warming in a variety of modes and genres. The texts, which ultimately appeal for a necessary cultural shift to save a world in peril, demonstrate that the response to the climate crisis is inseparable from advocacy for social and racial justice.

Grading Components
- Attendance/Participation (15% of final grade)
- An oral close/critical reading presentation of a passage from one of the texts (10%)
- Three 950 to 1000-word critical reflections (25% each)
