Join the Queen’s Entomological Society for a fascinating (and fun!) introduction to the world of edible insects. Discover how insects have long been part of global cuisine and learn about their nutritional and environmental benefits. This session will highlight common edible species, preparation methods, and tips for trying insects at home — plus, explore how these traditions contribute to lower emissions and sustainable food systems.
Come curious — and you might just find a new favourite food! (An optional tasting may be offered.)
Details: Insects are not a new source of protein. They have been a part of global cuisine for many years with many nutritional and environmental benefits.
This session will cover some common edible species, regional preparation methods, and simple ways to try insects at home, with sourcing tips in Canada.
As well, we will look looks at how these traditions support lower emissions and strong nutrition today.
Presenting: The Queen’s Entomological Society (QES) is a student-run club that promotes insect literacy and campus biodiversity. We organize various activities and collaborative projects with campus partners, including pollinator-garden development and biodiversity monitoring. Our work aims to support research-informed outreach and hands-on learning that helps the Queen’s community understand, value, and protect insect life.
