Dev Diwali is regarded as the kalyanaks of many of the Tirthankaras or Pathfinders. There are five Kalyanaks - conceivement, birth, diksha (ordainment), enlightenment and moksha. Shjrimadji (Jain Saint); Lokanshah (founder of non-idol worshiper group called Sthanakvasi of the Swetamber sect); and, Hemchandracharya (Jain Scholar) were born on this day. Dev Diwali marks the end of the Diwali celebrations and the end of the four month monsoon season (Chaturmas). It is also considered to be an auspicious time for pilgrimage to the sacred sites associated with the Jain religion.
