    Description:

Join SNID for a talk by Ralph Callebert entitled "The Labour of Clientelism: Work, Citizenship, and Entitlement in Africa." Everyone welcome!

In this talk, Ralph Callebert builds on his argument in his first book, On Durban's Docks: Zulu Workers, Rural Households, Global Labor, to explore the links between labour and citizenship from an Africanist perspective. I argue that African socioeconomic realities challenge us to broaden our understanding of labour, which in turn can help us think differently about the crisis of citizenship in Africa and elsewhere.
