Multi-institutional networked approaches to enhancing learning: The way of the future?

    When:
    Monday, August 21, 2017
    10:00 AM – 12:00 PM
    Where:
    Robert Sutherland Hall
    Room: 202
    Find on Campus Map
    Description:

Faciliated by Dr. Linda Slakey, Senior Scholar, Research Hub, Bay View Alliance

For decades, concerted efforts have been made to align teaching with what we know about how people learn, and about what draws in students from all sectors of the population and supports their learning. Cognitive science and discipline based education research have now established beyond argument that classroom practices that engage students directly lead to better learning outcomes. More recently, organizations like the Bay View Alliance and the National Science Foundation (NSF) have been focusing on multi-institutional networked approaches to enhancing learning to drive system-wide change.

Dr. Slakey will review the landscape based on her experience as a leader in higher education, both as a university administrator and as Director of the Division of Undergraduate Education at the NSF, and speak about where she sees the greatest potential for future transformational change in student learning.
