Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) connects students from different countries in collaborative, cross-cultural learning experiences without requiring travel. While existing COIL research often emphasizes the development of intercultural competence, this study addresses two gaps: the use of COIL to support the development of coding skills aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the application of COIL within pre-service teacher education.
We present findings from a COIL project that examined how education students in two contexts, Canada and Serbia, develop coding and physical computing skills, engage with sustainability through the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and collaborate internationally on STEM focused projects.
