    Description:

Biology Department 4th year Capstone Speaker Dr. Michael Szego (University of Toronto) will give a talk at 4.45 in Room 1102 Biosciences Complex on Friday March 10th entitled:

MY CAREER PATH FROM BIOLOGY TO BIOETHICS: REFLECTIONS AND SOME USEFUL ADVICE FOR STUDENTS AT THE START OF THEIR CAREERS

Abstract:  My career path has not been typical. Following an honours biology degree at McGill, I worked at a small biopharmaceutical company in Montreal and then went on to do a Doctorate in the Department of Molecular Genetics at the University of Toronto. After my genetics training, I completed a Masters in Bioethics and a Fellowship in Clinical Ethics at the University of Toronto Joint Centre for Bioethics. I am currently acting director at the Centre for Clinical Ethics, which provides clinical ethics services to 10 different healthcare institutions, and assistant professor in the Dalla Lana School of Public Health and the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Toronto. In this talk, I will describe my career journey and --with the benefit of hindsight-- some of the critical decision points along the way.
