In various religions, mobility and transition 鈥� in a bodily as much as in a spiritual way 鈥揵elong to the most fundamental topics, experiences, and expectations. Religious sources frequently reflect the common experience of human beings 鈥渙n the run鈥� in various concepts and metaphors from 鈥淓xodus鈥� to the 鈥渢ransmigration of souls鈥� Using Yuri Slezkine鈥檚 (2004) role models of Mercury and Apollo to describe two ways of coping with spatial, social and transcendental mobility, we will discuss migration in religious contexts, but also in programs of social and / or individual self-assessment.
