    Description:

Alive on the Page (How an Editor Reads)

What is a page? This seemingly simple question unlocks a world of inquiry for a book editor, whose working life is defined in countless daily ways by the humble “object” of the page: its dimensions, its cost, its elements, its space for certain carefully chosen letters, words and images, and the potentially subversive meaning of its space between lines. As a single page of type evolves towards publication—from writing to editing to physical production as part of the larger universe of a book—it can become a thrilling, intimate site of creation, possibility, and exchange. And what, then, does it mean to turn the page? Alive on the Page considers these questions and an answer.

Lynn Henry is the editor-in-chief at Knopf Canada and the publishing director of Alchemy by Knopf, acquiring groundbreaking literary fiction and non-fiction. Books she has edited have won numerous accolades and prizes in Canada and internationally. Lynn works with acclaimed Canadian authors such as Madeleine Thien, Miriam Toews, Sheila Heti, Dionne Brand, Rawi Hage, Christina Sharpe, Canisia Lubrin, Kate Harris, Maria Reva, Lisa Moore, Leanne Betasamosake Simpson, Joshua Whitehead and Otoniya Okot Bitek, alongside internationally celebrated writers such as Sally Rooney, Judith Butler, Sunjeev Sahota and Sarah Bakewell.
