Northeast Africa from 1850s

This course will examine the history of modern Northeast Africa. We will explore the historical processes that have shaped the political, economic, and socio-cultural development of Northeast African states since the second half of the nineteenth century. Key themes will include colonialism, resistance to colonialism, nationalist movements and the demand for independence, the emergence of new nation-states and regional struggles for power, national politics, economic development, environmental and health challenges, conflicts and insecurity, migration, and arts and entertainment.
