In February 2026, the Chinese Language Program hosted a vibrant Chinese New Year Celebration, bringing together students, Chinese volunteers, and friends to experience the richness of Chinese language and culture through engaging performances and hands-on activities.
Students from all levels showcased their learning and creativity. CHIN100 students presented poetry recitations, oral presentations, New Year greetings, and a lively class chorus, reflecting their growing confidence in the language.
CHIN200 students captivated the audience with a talk show, cultural presentations on tea, festivals, and cuisine, as well as dynamic song and dance performances, demonstrating their expanding fluency and cultural awareness.
CHIN300 students, together with Chinese volunteers, led a series of interactive cultural activities, including calligraphy, lantern riddles, Chinese knot-making, Mahjong, and tangyuan (sweet rice dumpling) making. These activities offered participants an immersive, hands-on experience of traditional Chinese culture.
A special highlight of the event was guest speaker Chef RJ, who introduced Chinese cuisine and guided participants through a live cooking demonstration of chow mein, offering a delicious and memorable cultural experience.
From preparation to performance, the celebration provided a meaningful platform for students to develop their language skills while deepening their appreciation for Chinese culture in a joyful and collaborative environment.
