These second degree regulations apply whenever a student is admitted to and registers in two undergraduate degrees, whether the registrations are concurrent, overlapping or sequential. The exceptions are formal Senate-approved concurrent degree programs, e.g., BA/B.Ed, that are listed in the calendars.
To assure greater consistency among Faculties and Schools the Senate has approved the following policy:

no student may receive two degrees at the same level with the same subject concentrations, for example, two BA Honours degrees in History.

no person shall be prevented from taking a second bachelor's degree solely because it has the same name as the first, for example, having completed a B.Sc. in an Applied Science discipline should not prevent a person from taking a B.Sc. in the Faculty of Arts and Science.

Those intending to take a second degree are required to register separately for that degree in the Faculty concerned.

A second degree may not be granted without additional study and examination.

The upper limit to the number of credits from a first degree program which may be counted towards a second degree under Faculty regulations is:

for a three year degree, 2/3 of the total credits required, and

for a four year degree, 1/2 of the total credits required. Faculties are permitted to set lower, more restrictive, limits on the number on courses counted toward a particular degree.

Normally, a person is required to register for the second degree before taking any course to fulfill requirements beyond the permitted transfer credits.

Fees will be charged for course registrations in excess of the permitted transfer credits which are to be counted towards a second degree.
