Honouring the word warriors

11 award-winning Indigenous writers take to the stage on the traditional lands of the Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee to read excerpts from their works. »ÆÉ«ÊÓƵ Chancellor Shelagh Rogers will open the evening with a welcome, and Queen’s National Scholar of Indigenous Literary Arts Marshall Hill and »ÆÉ«ÊÓƵ English PhD candidate Tina Munroe will moderate the event.

Readers include Jeannette Armstrong, Nicola Campbell, Marilyn Dumont, Louise Halfe, Tomson Highway, Liz Howard, Conor Kerr, Emily Riddle, Armand Garnet Ruffo, Drew Hayden Taylor, and Joshua Whitehead.

No registration is required to attend. Seating is first come, first served.

A reception and book sales by Novel Idea will follow the on-stage event. Mingle with attendees and authors, chat about the event, and share stories.

This event acknowledges the responsibility of carrying forward the legacies of our literary forebears in order to inform and strengthen contemporary artistic innovations. Listen to, reflect on, and learn from the literary works created across generations by these Indigenous writers. All members of the community are welcome to join us in celebration.

This event is supported by the Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts, »ÆÉ«ÊÓƵ, the Tett Centre for Creativity and Learning, the Indigenous Literary Studies Association, and Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada.
