Queen’s is introducing OneStream, a new enterprise budgeting and forecasting platform designed to make budget development more consistent and streamlined. The platform is expected to launch in spring 2027 as part of the Queen’s Renew Program.

Budget development at Queen’s currently relies heavily on Excel spreadsheets and manual data entry. Finance staff spend considerable time collecting information, entering data, and consolidating files from multiple sources before analysis can begin. This makes the process more time-consuming and labour-intensive than necessary.

OneStream will help address these challenges by providing a single enterprise platform for budgeting and forecasting, allowing finance professionals to devote more time to planning, analysis, and advice that supports decision-making across the university. Electronic workflows and standardized templates will reduce repetitive administrative work and the time spent managing and consolidating spreadsheets. Budget submissions, reviews, and approvals will also take place within the shared platform, reducing the need to manage multiple files and lengthy email exchanges.

The implementation of OneStream is a key initiative under the Queen’s Renew Program, the university’s multi-year effort to make professional services more effective and efficient. The project builds on recent finance process improvements, including standardized salary templates, the Planning and Budgeting Community of Practice, and streamlined procurement processes. It also supports the program’s broader goal of ensuring Queen’s staff have the modern tools and systems they need to do their best work.

Over the coming months, the project will move through design and configuration, data integration, testing, and training. As core users of the platform, representatives from financial planning and analysis teams in faculties and shared services, as well as the central budget office, will be closely involved in validating the design, conducting user acceptance testing, and preparing for the spring 2027 launch.
