Sociology PhD Alumni, Dr. Rhea Ashley Hoskin wins Governor General’s Academic Gold Medals

Congratulations to Rhea Ashley Hoskin who has won one of the two Queen’s University Governor General’s Academic Gold Medals for 2018-2019. This medal is awarded to a graduating or completed Master’s or Doctoral student in the School of Graduate Studies, chosen in competition with other nominated graduate students from across the University. It is awarded on the basis of outstanding academic achievement.

Dr. David Lyon Public Lecture

On October 2 David Lyon gave a public lecture, “Waking up to Smart Surveillance” at the Jagiellonian University, Kraków, Poland, as one of the events associated with the 656th annual inauguration of the new academic year. The university was founded in 1364. Nicholas Copernicus was once a student there.

Dr. Victoria Sytsma Awarded Grant

Dr. Victoria Sytsma is the co-principal investigator on a research team which has secured a grant in the amount of $110,346.69USD from The Charles Koch Foundation, Criminal Justice & Policing Reform Program to complete a study titled, Identifying Situational Determinants of Police Use of Force: A Systematic Social Observation of Body Camera Footage in Newark, NJ
