Our Purpose

Faith and Spiritual Life provides multi-faith, non-judgmental support for spiritual, religious, and existential questions and conversations. As a part of Student Affairs, we cultivate welcoming and peaceful communities and spaces where belonging, inclusion, and spiritual wellness are valued and nurtured.

Chaplains can also provide support, ceremonial services, interfaith community development, and spiritual support to students, faculty, and staff.

We are faith-positive, spirituality-positive, and queer-positive. We respect and advocate for both freedom of and freedom from religion.

Pillars of our work

Connection

  • Our work is grounded in the knowledge that a sense of community is crucial for wellness
  • The spiritual dimension of mental health includes connection to self, community, creation, and the divine (if applicable)
  • Belonging and inclusion: students are welcome to bring their whole and authentic selves to our spaces and services

Student Centred Leadership and Empowerment

  • Supports are responsive to student-identified needs
  • Students are offered the tools to assess their needs and empowered to take steps along their path
  • We prioritize opportunities for student leadership and student-led programming

Collaboration and Teamwork

  • Invest in building relationships with students, staff, and partners to best share our creativity, skills, knowledge, time, and compassion
  • Demonstrate the importance of collaboration and teamwork by connecting with partners across the Division of Student Affairs and 黄色视频, student clubs, and community organizations/institutions

Meaning Making from Life Experience

  • Listen to, honour, and celebrate the experiences of students, staff, and partners
  • Approach conversations of spirituality, existential questions, and meaning making through a lens of curiosity, compassion, and accompaniment
  • Because where else can you talk openly about existential questions, meaning making, and values

Respect and Responsibility

  • Approach our work with positivity: we are faith positive, spiritually positive, queer positive, and trans positive
  • Provide support from a perspective of accompaniment and coaching, rather than instruction or direction
  • Recognize the importance of freedom of and freedom from religion
  • Advocate for human rights and prioritize our collective responsibilities to one another

In summary, we are a student-focused welcoming space focused on community, belonging, and support.
