Meet our Vancouver Branch Co-Presidents
Ran Carter, Artsci'10
Ran Carter is Regional Director, West Region at Export Development Canada (EDC), where she leads the organization’s mid-market business, regional strategy, and presence across British Columbia.
She has held a range of senior leadership roles at EDC spanning strategy, international markets, and regional operations, including Chief Representative for Greater China, where she led teams that are based at the Canadian Embassy in Beijing and Consulate General in Shanghai. She also played a key role in advancing EDC’s Indo-Pacific expansion and shaping its 2030 corporate strategy.
Prior to joining EDC, Ran was a management consultant, advising multinational organizations on strategy and operations across North America and Asia. She has also partnered with industry and government stakeholders to advance trade and investment initiatives. Ran is a frequent speaker at industry forums, sharing insights on international business, global trade, Canada–Asia relations, and women’s leadership.
Ran holds an MBA from the Rotman School of Management and a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Queen’s University. She serves on the Economic Development and Fiscal Committee at the Greater Vancouver Board of Trade, sits on the boards of Forum for International Trade Training and the Canadian International Council’s Edmonton Chapter, and is a member of the Governance Committee at Golf Canada.
Jonathan Kong, Artsci'11
Jonathan is a Vancouver-based »ÆÉ«ÊÓƵ alumnus who has charted a career straddling the education, philanthropy and community relations sectors. He studied Politics and Global Development Studies at »ÆÉ«ÊÓƵ and participated in both the »ÆÉ«ÊÓƵ Fudan Study Abroad Programme in Shanghai and attended the Bader International Study Centre (now Bader College) at Herstmonceux Castle. These formative experiences shaped his global outlook and drove his commitment to leadership through education.
Professionally, Jonathan is a Co-Founder of Porte, an advisory focused on helping students and families navigate global education and leadership pathways. Jonathan additionally serves in advisory roles across nonprofit, educational, and youth-focused initiatives across the Vancouver area, including organizations dedicated to supporting newcomers and refugees, health and mental health, food security, and leadership development. He leverages his ability to connect people across sectors to help cultivate meaningful opportunities and community impact.
Through Porte and his broader advisory work, he has raised over $1.5 million for charitable initiatives and has worked closely with leading schools and organizations on strategy, partnerships, and philanthropy.
Earlier in his career, he had worked with a number of Queen’s leaders supporting the university's international relationships and fostering greater people to people ties across the Asia Pacific. Jonathan has remained deeply committed to the Queen’s community and is passionate about strengthening alumni connections and giving back in ways that support future generations.
